Graveyard tour sounds a bit scary. But can be pleasing. Today I visited Assistens Kirkegaard Cemetary in Nørrebro, northern part of Copenhagen. Here rest many many late Danish writers, poets, philosophers and music composers. This is my second time here.
Today I came back just to meet Hans Christian Andersen, the famous children book writer (Little Mermaid, Ugly Duckling, etc). The first time I came was super spontaneous and did not carry the sketchbook along. Before finding H.C. Andersen grave, I came across the grave of Petersen family (above). Do not know who they are though but It definitely makes its way to my TOP 5 favorite grave of all time. :p
But the real destination is H C Andersen’s grave.(below)
It does not seem like a tourist attraction at all. But people keep coming to his grave, one or two at a time. I sit there for around 10 minutes and around 5 -6 small group of tourist stopped by to see him. They were all quiet visits. It feels like they just wanted to see somebody they have known since childhood. We actually grow up with his stories, regardless of our age or origin. RIP.
